Lucía Torrijos Saiz completed her PhD in July 2025 focusing on the characterization of immature neurons in the postnatal brain. Her work provided a comparative analysis of the paralaminar nuclei of the amygdala across multiple mammalian species including mouse, ferret, swine and marmoset. She combined molecular, ultrastructural, and birth-dating approaches to investigate neuronal identity, maturation, and migratory dynamics. Her findings revealed conserved populations of immature excitatory neurons with species-specific maturation patterns.
